HOW EMSELLA CHAIR WORKS

WHAT IS URINARY INCONTINENCE?

Incontinence may be caused or effected by pregnancy, child birth, menopause, dramatic weight changes and female surgeries such as hysterectomy. Also, as we age the prevalence and the severity of urinary incontinence increases.

There are three main types of urinary incontinence in women and men. Patients may experience one type or mixed incontinence, which is when you experience more than one type of urinary incontinence.

  • STRESS INCONTINENCE
  • URGE INCONTINENCE
  • OVERFLOW INCONTINENCE

WHAT IS STRESS INCONTINENCE?

Often referred to as bladder leakage or light bladder leakage, stress incontinence is when urine leaks (frequent urination) when you put pressure on your bladder. This could happen when you are exercising, often jumping or coughing, laughing or sneezing, resulting in a small or large amount of urine leakage. This can be embarrassing and mean you restrict or cut out many enjoyable activities that could cause leakage.

WHAT IS URGE INCONTINENCE?

When you have a sudden and often intense urge to urinate, commonly followed by an involuntary loss of urine. Often you will need to go to the toilet more often during the day, every half hour or hour, meaning you will always need to know where a toilet is when you are out, this quite often restricts activities. Commonly this will disrupt your sleep as you will need to frequently wake and urinate.

WHAT IS OVERFLOW INCONTINENCE?

When your bladder does not empty completely, this leads to consistent dribbling or urine.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When a lack of bladder control affects you by restricting the activities you can do, or affects your confidence, it may be time to meet with Dr Diana in a free consultation to discuss your bladder control.
It is a comfortable treatment where you remain fully clothed throughout the treatment. You will receive thousands of pelvic contractions during your session on the Emsella chair.
A standard course is two 30 minute sessions per week, for three weeks. A total of 6 sessions over 3 weeks.
Each treatment is 30 minutes of sitting on the Emsella Chair.
Each patient is different, however many people feel a benefit after the first treatment with results improving over the three weeks of treatment.
The Emsella chair gives thousands of pelvic contractions or kegel/ pelvic floor contractions in a 30 minute treatment. The strength of each contraction is much more intense than you could get from a Kegel exercise and are therefore more effective.
Your suitability for treatment will be determined during your complimentary consultation with Dr Diana. As this technology relies on magnets, anyone with metal implants or a pace maker may not be suitable. If you are not suitable for this treatment, Dr Diana has multiple treatment options for incontinence and vaginal tightening.
